Toshikazu Saito

Toshikazu Saito (died 1582) was a Japanese samurai who was a member of the Saito clan, and was later loyal to the Akechi, fighting and dying at the Battle of Yamazaki.

Biography[]

Toshikazu was one of the Saito cousins, related to Tatsuoki Saito, the daimyo who controlled Mino Province. After the Battle of Mt. Inaba Castle, Toshikazu became a vassal of Mitsuhide Akechi, who was a retainer of the Oda clan, and from 1567 to 1582, was loyal to Nobunaga Oda, when one day, the Akechi rose up and slew Nobunaga at Honnoji. Toshikazu became a commander in the Akechi Army during the Battle of Yamazaki that year, but he was killed in battle by Yoshiharu Horio, who cut him down as Toshikazu scrolled across Hideyoshi Hashiba's lines.
