Robert the Strong

Duke Robert "the Strong" of Anjou (830-2 July 866) was the Duke of Anjou under Francia. He was slain in battle with Haesteinn of Nantes in 866.

Biography[]

Robert was a son of Robert III of Worms, and he succeeded his father as the Count of Worms. He fought against Charles the Bald in a rebellion from 858 to 861 alongside Salomon of Breizh, but he later made peace with Charles, who gave him Anjou as a fief. Robert the Strong, as he was nicknamed, fought several wars against the other Franks, but on 2 July 866 he died in battle with Salomon and Haesteinn of Nantes at the Battle of Brissarthe.
