League of Augsburg

The League of Augsburg, also known as the Grand Alliance, was a European coalition formed by Austria, Bavaria, Prussia, the United Provinces, England, Ireland, the Palatinate, Portugal, Savoy, Saxony, Scotland, Spain, and Sweden in 1686. The alliance was founded by the Austrians, the Dutch, the Spanish, and the Swedish with the goal of halting King Louis XIV of France's territorial ambitions. The alliance first fought against the Kingdom of France in the War of the Grand Alliance during the 1690s, and the League of Augsburg would fight against France again during the War of the Spanish Succession from 1702 to 1715. The alliance made peace with France in 1713, and the alliance dissolved after France allied with the allies against Spain in the War of the Quadruple Alliance.
