Sheikh Rashid al-Din of Karbala

Sheikh Rashid al-Din of Karbala (21 August 714-) was a noble of the Abbasid Caliphate.

Biography[]

Rashid al-Din Hamadani was born to the House of Hamadani, a dynasty of Sunni Muslim Persians. On 11 October 769 he arrived at the court of Caliph al-Mansur, seeking his help in composing the "Compendium of Chronicles", and the caliph agreed to see what they could do together. He appointed Rashid al-Din as court poet as well as the Sheikh of Karbala, marrying him to Shaykhah Shola of Karbala. Later, he married Shaykhah Shahrbano of Karbala and was also made Court Imam.
