Arturo Guzman Loera

Arturo Guzman Loera (died 31 December 2004) was the brother of Sinaloa Cartel leader Joaquin Guzman Loera, better known as "El Chapo". In 2004, he was murdered in prison by the Juarez Cartel in retaliation for the murder of Rodolfo Carrillo Fuentes earlier that year.

Biography[]

Arturo Guzman Loera was the younger brother of Joaquin Guzman Loera, and he took care of his brother's children while he was away in prison. In 2001, Joaquin returned after escaping from prison, and his brother became one of his closest advisers. Arturo would later be arrested for assisting his brother in selling drugs, and the United States demanded his extradition. Before anything could happen, however, Guzman Loera was shot seven times by a hitman in an area of the La Palma prison set aside for inmates to talk with their attorneys. His death was retaliation for the murder of Rodolfo Carrillo Fuentes, with Rodolfo's brother Vicente Carrillo Fuentes ordering the hit.
