Agnello Participazio (765-827) was the Doge of Venice from 811 to 827, succeeding Obelerio degli Antenori and preceding Giustiniano Participazio.
Biography[]
Agnello was born in 765 to the House of Participazio, a dynasty of Catholic Italians, in Heraclia (Eraclea, Italy). King Pepin of Italy, the son of Emperor Charlemagne, besieged the city in 810, so Agnello took up its defense. After the previous doges were exiled, Agnello was elected as the new Pope, and he founded a dynasty of future popes. He died in 827.
